Abstract

|
Purpose: The aim of this qualitative study was to understand and describe what nursing transferstudents experienced upon completing core courses.
Methods: Twelve nursing transferstudents from one baccalaureate nursing department participated in this study. Data were collected through focus group interviews. The collected data were analyzed using conventional content analysis.
Results: The results of this study yielded three categories and nine theme clusters. The three categories were: ¡®finding myself growing in difficult situations and planning for the future¡¯, ¡®recognizing colleagues as important learning partners¡¯, and ¡®wanting to grow further through relationships with the professor.
Conclusion: Based on these results, we can understand nursing transferstudents experiences with major classes and their grievances with major class courses. Therefore, the role of a professor as a facilitator will be very necessary so that nursing transfer-students can develop their competency as professional nurses and establish their identity through major classes in the nursing curriculum.
